Continuing education credits for nurses will be offered, CNEP-09 (06/11) (Participants must be present for the entire event and submit a completed program evaluation to receive contact hours. There is no commercial support for this offering or conflict of interest with the speakers or planners.) Program Goals: Examine the current and future impact of Health IT and "meaningful use" on healthcare quality, efficiency, and safety. Objectives: Identify the current state of implementation of "meaningful use" criteria in healthcare organizations. Examine the actual and potential impact of adoption of Health IT and "meaningful use" in improving processes and quality outcomes in healthcare. Explore the barriers and challenges in the "meaningful use" from EHR and PHR data. Discuss teamwork and communication behaviors that can improve understanding and efficiencies among healthcare professionals. Discuss opportunities for consumer and patient engagement with emerging access to electronic health data. Discuss policy implications, future research opportunities and building "just in time" evidence for practice that result from availability of EHR data and Health Information Exchanges (HIE's) Discuss ways the university can partner with healthcare organizations and Health Information Exchanges (HIE's) to fully enhance the use of electronic health data for quality improvement.
